PROTON SEES INSPIRING SALES

ALOR STAR: Proton has announced that 4,000 units of the Inspira were sold nationwide since its launch in November.

Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said the public response was tremendous and showed that "the model has managed to inspire many and fulfilled their ambition to own their dream car."

Syed Zainal Abidin said Proton also plans to bring to production a 'Pahlawan' (Warrior) model for the domestic market though he did not say which of the five concept cars would actually be made.

He was here to launch the Proton 1Malaysia Festival on Sunday.

The so-called 'Pahlawan' series made their debut at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2010, which ran from Dec 3 to Dec 12.

According to the 2010 Year-End Zeitgeist report released by Google on Dec 9, the Inspira was the year’s most popular search over Google among Malaysians.

The report said “not even Apple’s iPad and the Greatest Show on Earth - the Fifa World Cup 2010 come close” to the hype generated by the Proton Inspira.

Google recorded a meteoric spike of queries on the Inspira when it was previewed in October, which was enough to knock off the iPad for the number one spot, although the latter was introduced to the world in January.
